California native Carmelita Jeter, also known as ‘The Jet’ for obvious reasons, began her track career in high school freshman year, discovering a passion for speed following her athletic upbringing into basketball. She went on to attend California State University where she became the school’s first ever Olympic trials qualifier.
Since her first professional season in 2007, Carmelita’s career has taken the shape of a long list of accolades and record breaking achievements. In 2009 she became the ‘fastest woman alive’, and third fastest woman in history, when she smashed the 100m with a time of 10.64. In 2010 she was ranked world no.1 by T&FN. In the 2012 Olympics she was the anchor leg of the gold medal winning relay team, and became the first athlete to medal in both the 100m and 200m events.
Off the track, Carmelita is an athlete with a big heart. She works to support breast cancer, actively gives back to the communities she calls home through fundraising events, and encourages kids to learn about health and fitness with her awesome ‘Team Jet Track Clinic’.
